In a bid to solidify their position on consumer IoT security, smart manufacturing giant Xiaomi has released Cyber Security Baseline for Consumer Internet of Things Device Version 2.0, that aims to protect security and user privacy.
These guidelines provide requirements covering device hardware, software all the way to device communication. It also applies to data security and privacy, covering communication security, authentication, access control, secure boot and data deletion, among others.
Their guidelines fulfill the needs of the consumer IoT industry, especially a there is no universal standard that can be publicly queried and set into action. Companies can now refer to this guide to avoid certain basic security and privacy protection risks, and to quickly improve their products’ security and privacy protection capabilities.
The guideline comes as the British Standards Institution (BSI) confirmed that Xiaomi Mesh System AX3000 has obtained the BSI IoT Kitemark™ Certificate, which proved the high consistency between the Cyber Security Baseline and the BSI’s international IoT security standards.
The service quality certification BSI IoT Kitemark™ offers technical testing and security audits for IoT systems, reassuring consumers of secure IoT devices under the highest standards. Xiaomi’s certification declares that their products comply with various cybersecurity standards, among them the ETSI/EN 303645 as well as the Open Web Application Security Project® Top 10 security requirements.
This marks the third instance of Xiaomi receiving the international security accreditation. In July last year, the Mi 360° Home Security Camera 2K and Xiaomi Home App obtained BSI Kitemark™ Certificates.
“Users’ security and privacy is the top priority of Xiaomi, and we promise that this applies to all markets where we operate,” said vice president and chairman of Xiaomi Security and Privacy Committee Cui Baoqiu. “Over the years, we have made great efforts to protect users’ security and privacy. I’m confident and proud to say that Xiaomi is in the leading position of IoT security policies and practices in the world, and we will continue to work hard to build a better IoT ecosystem for our users.”
