Thales, SG LTA partner for MRT automatic fare collection

Garnering the trust and preference of Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA) for two decades, top international transportation supplier Thales has been tapped to provide the nation’s Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) with their cutting-edge Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) gates.

As cashless transactions continue to exponentially rise in usage, stemming from safer practices at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, applying the system to everyday needs such as transportation has become a necessity.

Both the LTA and Thales are acutely aware of this new normal need and are on the same page with regard to offering constituents and customers digital solutions.

With the latest contactless technologies and downsized swing flaps for ease of commute, the endearingly named “Gates of Singapore” aim to ergonomically and effectively meet the needs of all commuters.

Throughout the North-South, East-West, Circle Lines, and even the future Jurong Region Line, a total of 1,350 AFC gates will be completely revamped, under Thales and the LTA’s agreement.

With an impressive track record for intricate transportation projects and revenue collection systems all over the world and in Singapore particularly, Thales’ team of diverse experts will ensure a smooth and efficient ticketing experience upon completion.

Thales in Singapore’s Chief Executive and Country Director Kevin Chow spoke of the prestigious partnership’s alignment with the company’s own goal of establishing “a sustainable future for all”.

“We recognize that the future mobility is contactless and touch-free and by having our solutions across the majority of Singapore’s MRT lines, we hope that commuters continue to enjoy a consistent and pleasant journey when they ride the trains,” Chow said.
