The Thailand Office of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) and Huawei Technologies (Thailand) Co., Ltd. recently launched the Siriraj World Class 5G Smart Hospital.
The Siriraj World Class 5G Smart Hospital project is the first and largest 5G smart hospital project in the region. The goal is to bring a more efficient and convenient experience to patients through the introduction of Huawei’s innovative technologies, such as 5G, cloud, and artificial intelligence (AI).
Siriraj Hospital, together with Huawei, set up a Joint Innovation Lab designed for the use of 5G applications. These will include 5G portable medical boxes, unmanned vehicles, medical carts and smart hospital beds. They envision nationwide use of a total of 30 5G medical applications by 2022.
Prime Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha said that 5G technology was an important step in realizing the plan for a Digital Thailand, which would “help reduce processes for medical personnel, decrease overall risk” and would “improve the effectiveness and efficacy of healthcare for patients.”
Siriraj Hospital is seen to pave the way for the digitization of other hospitals in the future, he added.
This collaboration began as early as the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Siriraj Hospital and Huawei have established a long-term partnership in 5G technology development and application. In June 2020 for instance, Siriraj Hospital andHuawei Thailand launched 5G self-driving vehicles in order to contactlessly deliver medical supplies.
Six months later, Huawei signed a five-year deal with Siriraj Hospital to speed up the intelligent operation of Siriraj Hospital using digital technologies.
For these groundbreaking achievements, Siriraj Hospital bagged the CommunicAsia Awards in the category of “Most Innovative 5G Trial in Asia Pacific Region” that same year.
Huawei Thailand CEO Abel Deng believes that Siriraj Hospital is the “model for upgrading Thailand’s public health industry in the future and contributes to Siriraj’s transition to becoming a Smart Hospital, in line with Huawei’s mission to Grow in Thailand, Contribute to Thailand.”
