SAP’s Q1 2023: Strong Cloud Growth in APJ Region, Major Wins in Public Cloud Adoption

SAP, a leading provider of cloud services, announced in its Q1 2023 results on April 21 that businesses in the Asia Pacific and Japan (APJ) region continue to embrace their cloud solutions to support their digital transformation.

SAP’s S/4HANA cloud revenue and cloud backlog showed strong growth worldwide, with the APJ region demonstrating significant public cloud momentum.

In the APJ region, the company’s cloud revenue grew by 23% to €414 million (a 27% increase at constant currencies). The quarter saw notable public cloud adoption by companies like Shinsegae International and NEC Networks & System Integration Corporation, both of which chose SAP’s S/4HANA public cloud edition.

Moreover, SAP Cloud Success Services enabled successful go-lives for several leading organizations, including Commonwealth Bank of Australia, HCLTech, Indorama Ventures, DKSH Holdings, Wipro Limited, and L&T Limited.

The SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) also gained new customers like Hitachi High-Tech, Air India, and Homemade. Other companies such as Grasim Industries, NITORI HOLDINGS CO. LTD., KANSAI PAINT CO. LTD., and JFE Steel also reported successful go-lives.

SAP’s total revenue in APJ reached 1.063B Euros for Q1 2023, marking a 23% increase in cloud revenue over the same period in 2022. Globally, SAP’s cloud revenue grew by 24%, with S/4HANA cloud revenue seeing a massive 77% increase.

The press release also detailed the journeys of various APJ customer wins and go-lives. Companies such as Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA), HCLTech, and Indorama Ventures have benefited from the digital transformation capabilities of SAP Cloud Success Services. 

Other companies like JFE Steel and NEC Networks & System Integration Corporation have successfully adopted SAP’s S/4HANA Cloud solution. L&T Construction & Mining Machinery and Shinsegae International also reported successful go-lives with SAP solutions.

Wipro Limited, a multinational IT, consulting, and business process services company, went live with SAP Concur Travel in Q1 as part of its digital transformation plan.
