Tech industry leader Cisco released the latest edition of their annual study, ‘Security Outcomes Report, Volume 3: Achieving Security Resilience’, which found that Malaysian organisations focus on cybersecurity resilience as 80% of those surveyed had experienced a security event in the past two years.
Apart from its main findings, it also revealed that leading types of incidents included: ransomware events (57%), accidental disclosure (53%), distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack, and network or data breaches (48%).
These incidents impacted business for the organisations that experienced them: IT/communications interruption, lasting brand damage, loss of competitive advantage, and supply chain disruption.
As such, security leaders aim to adapt to unforeseen events or trends, minimise financial losses, and meet the demands and growth of business.
The study also determined seven success factors that improved enterprise security resilience, which put organisations that possessed them in the top 90th percentile of resilient businesses.
It found that:
- Security is a human effort, while leadership, company culture, and resourcing greatly affect resilience
- Businesses should lessen complexity when transitioning from on-site to fully cloud-based spaces
- Adopting and maturing advanced security solutions impacts resilient outcomes
“The Security Outcomes Reports are a study into what works and what doesn’t in cybersecurity,” said Jeetu Patel, executive vice president and general manager of Security and Collaboration at Cisco.
He continued: “The ultimate goal is to cut through the noise in the market by identifying practices that lead to more secure outcomes for defenders.”
