SINGAPORE, 24 March 2025 – The Institute of Technical Education (ITE) has partnered with Dell Technologies to launch a state-of-the-art Hybrid Cloud Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) Centre, following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The initiative aims to foster digital skills development and facilitate artificial intelligence (AI) adoption, especially among small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
Designed to run up to 80 virtual machines accessible via any web browser, the VDI Centre allows students to participate in lessons from virtually anywhere—eliminating hardware constraints and enabling more adaptive teaching approaches. At its core, Dell’s VxRail hyperconverged infrastructure provides the technological foundation, offering scalability, automation, and operational efficiency.
Responding to Evolving Learning Needs
The COVID-19 pandemic exposed major limitations in the traditional classroom setup, with disruptions stemming from resource constraints and rigid scheduling. The VDI solution presents a resilient alternative. By centralising computing resources, it allows students to connect to virtual desktops hosted remotely, ensuring a consistent and high-performance learning environment regardless of location.
A Platform for Real-World AI Innovation
Beyond supporting classroom instruction, the VDI Centre also empowers students with access to cutting-edge AI tools—including GenAI animation and 3D modelling—allowing them to experiment, prototype, and innovate in a cloud-based environment.
This setup also serves as a hub for industry collaboration. SMEs such as Convergent Systems (S) Pte Ltd, PilotPulse Pte Ltd, Ninety One Branding & Marketing Pte Ltd, and Alteredverse Pte Ltd will work with ITE through the VDI platform on AI-driven projects. Such partnerships aim to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world application.
As part of this initiative, ITE will also roll out the Universal Omniverse Experience (UOX), equipping students and educators with competencies in cloud computing, virtualisation, and AI. This includes training, upskilling, and certification to ensure workforce readiness in a digitally evolving economy.
A Three-Pillar Approach to Workforce Enablement
The collaboration is anchored on three key pillars—Train, Skill, and Certify:
Train: Dell will contribute expertise in infrastructure virtualisation and hybrid cloud technology to strengthen ITE’s curriculum.
Skill: ITE and Dell will co-develop skills training programmes and host workshops to guide SMEs in adopting VDI-based solutions, with the VDI Centre serving as a showcase and support environment.
Certify: Short courses for SMEs will be introduced, leading to Certificates of Competency (CoC) issued by ITE in key technical areas such as AI and data centre virtualisation.
This long-term partnership aims not only to future-proof ITE’s student and staff development but also to strengthen ties with Singapore’s wider tech ecosystem.
Low Khah Gek, chief executive officer, ITE, said, “By leveraging our partnership with Dell Technologies, we are not only enabling our learners to acquire new skills related to AI and virtualisation technologies but also preparing them for the future of work. The hybrid cloud VDI Centre empowers learners to access advanced tools and resources from anywhere, ensuring that our training remains flexible and impactful. Together, we are shaping an AI-ready workforce that will drive innovation and digital transformation in Singapore.”
