Insights from Asia’s Next-Generation Cloud Strategy Report

A transformative shift towards cloud computing is actively reshaping the Philippine business landscape, according to a survey titled “The Next-Generation Cloud Strategy In Asia”. This extensive research was conducted by Alibaba Cloud and its key findings were recently shared at a media conference.

The survey revealed that a significant 85 percent of Philippine businesses are preparing for a comprehensive migration to cloud services within the next two years. Astonishingly, 91 percent of these businesses are set to augment their investments in Cloud solutions throughout 2023.

Spanning insights from 1,000 organizations across various industries—such as finance, IT, manufacturing, media, telecommunications, and retail—in eight Asian markets including the Philippines, the survey highlighted the key motivations powering this move towards cloud adoption. The swift growth of the local data center market (78 percent) and the Philippine government’s steadfast digitalization agenda (79 percent) were identified as the main catalysts driving businesses towards cloud integration.

When it comes to selecting a cloud vendor, security (85 percent), availability (74 percent), and expertise (62 percent) were pinpointed as the decisive factors for Philippine businesses. Notably, security is a primary concern, with the Philippines outpacing its Asian neighbors, such as Indonesia (82 percent) and Thailand (78 percent), in prioritizing this aspect—especially within finance and education sectors.

In recognizing this accelerating trend, Alibaba Cloud is recalibrating its strategies to address the unique needs of the Philippine market. Allen Guo, the Country Manager for the Philippines at Alibaba Cloud, reiterated his company’s devotion to delivering innovative and dependable Cloud solutions in sync with the escalating momentum of Cloud adoption in the Philippines.

A standout revelation from the survey was the significance of training and educating employees in Cloud technology, a point identified as a major obstacle to Cloud adoption by the majority of surveyed businesses. To combat this challenge, Alibaba Cloud is forming alliances with local educational institutions, such as the Asia Pacific College, to bolster the cloud computing skills of students and educators, thereby cultivating a new generation of digital talent.

“The future landscape of Cloud computing lies in the hands of the next generation, and as educators, it is our duty to foster and nurture their digital talents,” stated Rhea-Luz Valbuena, Executive Director, School of Computing and Information Technologies, Asia Pacific College.

“Our recent collaboration with Alibaba Cloud has been instrumental in accelerating our mission to equip students with the essential tools to thrive in the current scenario, especially with the rising demand for cloud computing in local businesses,” Valbuena further commented.

In response to the growing global emphasis on environmental sustainability, Alibaba Cloud has unveiled its ‘Energy Expert’ sustainability solution. This initiative is designed to measure and manage carbon emissions, offering actionable insights for businesses striving to achieve their carbon emission targets.

Demonstrating its commitment to localized digital transformation, Alibaba Cloud has also entered into a strategic collaboration with Globe Business, a leading Philippine telecommunications provider. This partnership is envisioned to supply bespoke Cloud solutions, finely tuned to the distinct requirements of Philippine enterprises.

“Alibaba Cloud’s Financial Services solutions, comprising over 70 products, are crafted to assist financial services institutions (FSIs) of all sizes across various sectors in their digitalization journey,” Guo explained in response to a query from Malaya Business Insight regarding the platform’s versatility. These solutions encompass a broad range, including Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) and hybrid cloud deployments aimed at bolstering mobile and digital operations.

With the Philippines emerging as a leader in the cloud revolution, businesses are increasingly leveraging cloud technology to streamline operations, bolster security, and promote sustainability, while concurrently nurturing the digital prowess of the next generation—a journey that necessitates considerable infrastructure investment.

“With a local data center in the Philippines since 2021, we are devoted to supporting Philippine businesses with innovative cloud technologies, without compromising on compliance and data sovereignty,” Guo concluded.

As the preeminent public Cloud service provider in the Asia Pacific, Alibaba Cloud is uniquely positioned to equip Philippine businesses with state-of-the-art solutions that resonate with their evolving needs and aspirations.
