HKSTP Strengthens Regional Presence, Spotlights GreenTech and AI Innovation in Jakarta

HKSTP Showcases Innovative Tech in Indonesia
HKSTP participated in the “Think Business, Think Hong Kong” promotional event, organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council in Jakarta, Indonesia, to showcase innovative solutions developed by Park companies.

Jakarta, Indonesia – 9 January 2025 — The Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) is deepening its engagement with Southeast Asia, spotlighting cutting-edge GreenTech and AI solutions at the “Think Business, Think Hong Kong” event held in Jakarta. Organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council on 8 January, the event drew a cross-section of business leaders, financial institutions, tech startups, SMEs, and academics from across Indonesia.

Led by the Financial Secretary of the Hong Kong SAR, Mr Paul Chan, HKSTP’s delegation was accompanied by representatives from ten Park companies. Together, they presented a range of advanced technologies, including real-time monitoring systems for water, air, emissions, and marine environments, alongside AI-powered retail solutions and data-analysing 5G camera systems. Seven companies further showcased their innovations at the dedicated HKSTP Pavilion.

The event served as a strategic platform for Park companies to explore opportunities in Indonesia’s rapidly evolving tech ecosystem. Kevin To, Founder of One Energy (HK) Ltd, emphasised the relevance of Indonesia’s two-wheeler market, while Stanley Chow, Co-Founder and COO of Leapstack International Limited, underscored the growing demand for AI-driven health insurance technologies amid Indonesia’s fast-paced economic development.

The backdrop to this push is a deepening economic relationship between Indonesia and Hong Kong. In 2023, Hong Kong was Indonesia’s second-largest foreign investor, channeling over USD 3.7 billion into the country. With Indonesia planning to relocate its capital to Nusantara and reimagine it as a sustainable smart city by 2028, demand for advanced green technologies is expected to surge.

In addition to the promotional showcase, the HKSTP delegation participated in a broader trade mission organised by the Hong Kong Information Technology Joint Council. Meetings with senior Indonesian officials, including the Minister of Investment and the Ministry of National Development Planning, provided a forum to discuss collaboration across sectors such as finance, IT, logistics, and manufacturing.

These engagements reinforce Hong Kong’s position as a gateway for commercialising science and technology innovations and as a springboard for tech enterprises seeking to scale into the Greater Bay Area, mainland China, and wider international markets.
