Dow at Automotive World 2022: Introducing innovative technologies and sustainable solutions

At the recent Automotive World 2022 event held at Tokyo Big Sight, Dow unveiled a host of innovative technologies designed for the automotive industry’s sustainable development.

Dow’s highlight at the event is its material science expertise for vehicle electrification. As the official materials science partner of Jaguar TCS Racing, Dow had a hand in Jaguar Racing’s second-place team finish in the 2020/2021 Formula E World Championship.

Using materials that improve performance, Dow helped Jaguar push the limits of sustainable mobility. Dow displayed their expertise and commitment to the e-mobility and transportation industries through its MobilityScience™ platform, wherein products and services have customers’ needs in mind with various applications of polyurethanes, acrylics, specialty chemicals and silicones.

Innovative Solutions for E-Mobility Customers

Dow presented innovative solutions at the event. Among them were materials that support Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and electronic control units (ECUs). They also introduced products for batteries and power electronics to manage thermal, adhesion, sealing and throughput challenges and achieve reliable protection and shielding. There were also solutions for automotive lighting for safer driving conditions and array materials used to support electronics.

Distinct among their ECU and battery solutions was the DOWSIL™ EC-6601 Electrically Conductive Adhesive, a next-generation material designed for reliable performance and electromagnetic compatibility in various applications (e.g., transportation, communications, consumer electronics).

In ECU and ADAS heat control, the sustainable solutions provider had the DOWSIL™ TC-45XX CV series of gap fillers. Automotive electronics today are generating higher temperatures that could risk the functionality and reliability of modules over time. Dow’s collection of silicone thermal conductive gap fillers with varying levels of thermal conductivity provides better dispensability and stable performance for more reliable applications under the hood environments.

This series’ solutions include: DOWSIL™ TC-4515 CV, DOWSIL™ TC-4525 CV and DOWSIL™ TC-4535 CV, which provides a reliable cooling solution for modules (e.g., transmission control unit); and DOWSIL™ TC-4551 CV, a new thermal conductive gap filler for automotive power and sensitive electronic automotive applications.

The DOWSIL™ EA-4700 CV Adhesive is the company’s newest silicone solution for transportation assembly. It provides durable, rapid, room temperature adhesion. It also does away with the need for heat cure ovens, while displaying a fast cure profile with reasonable open times. This solution complements the ever-growing use of plastic substrates in transportation assembly, as its qualities allow the adhesive to bond to traditional metals and plastics (e.g., aluminum, PBT, PPS).

Dow’s product exhibition at Automotive World 2022 showed its commitment to meeting the need for low carbon mobility via the latest material science technologies and strong partnership with customers.

The solutions provider is dedicated to reducing its net annual carbon emissions by an extra 15%, with a reduction of approximately 30% by 2030. It hopes to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
