Dell to shape future 5000 tech talents in Singapore

In a bid to bolster pre-employment training for more than 5,000 tertiary students over the next two years, Dell Technologies has entered a collaborative commitment with four institutes of higher learning (IHLs), namely Singapore Institute of Technology (SIP), Singapore Management University (SMU), Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP), and Singapore Polytechnic (SP).

Under the banner of Dell Technologies’ Digital Future – Made in Singapore initiative, the partnership between the enterprise and four IHLs was made official and witnessed by Tan Kiat How, Minister of State, Ministry of Communications & Information at Dell Technologies Executive Briefing Solution Centre at One@Changi City.

Through Dell Technologies Academy, new content will be co-developed for curriculum modules, as well as specialist diplomas and degree offerings focused on core competencies linked to new and emerging technologies including cloud computing and digital cities management.

Feedback obtained by Dell Technologies identified the key skills that the partnership will focus on building, which also aligns with Infocomm Media Development Authority’s (IMDA) Services 4.0 roadmap toward a digital economy that utilizes emerging technologies.

Dell Technologies will be in close cooperation with IHL educators, providing curated tech expertise and curriculum planning consultation centered on cloud-native content, as well as lab tutorial experiences.

On the other hand, students will have access to insights and mentorship opportunities from Dell Technology industry professionals, for hands-on immersion in the latest emerging technologies and industry content including microservices, Kubernetes, and DevOps.

An impressive suite of self-guided learning courses will be provided to students from the partner IHLs through Dell Technologies’ digital learning platform, in order to make good use of the current hybrid education system as learners are empowered with the knowledge and skills needed by the ICT sector.

Speaking of the importance of the collaboration, Mr. Tan said that the government remains committed to supporting the empowerment of the youth in the ever-growing digital economy and that partnership with industry giants such as Dell Technologies is a key move that they fully support.

Meanwhile, Dell Technologies Asia Pacific & Japan, and Global Digital Cities President Amit Midha spoke of the company’s own commitment to working with the Singapore government and IHLs in order to “drive human progress with technology, values and purpose” as their initiatives aim to bolster the ICT and cloud-native ecosystem in the country.

As for the four partner IHLs’ respective leaders, each expressed their enthusiasm for the opportunities the team up with Dell technologies will bring for their students.

“SIT is happy to co-develop content with Dell to jointly train future ICT talents. As Singapore’s University of Applied Learning, we provide avenues for students to work on real-world projects that deepen their knowledge and skills,” said SIT President-designate Prof. Chua Kee Chaing.

“Collaborations with industry and technology providers, such as Dell Technologies, are part of our overall efforts to nurture future-ready graduates who are able to create value to business and society with industry-relevant skills. We are confident that the knowledge and skills gained from our growing collaboration with Dell Technologies can boost the employability of our students and enable them to be even better prepared for evolving technological trends,” stated Prof. Timothy Clark, Provost of SMU.

“Ngee Ann Polytechnic is pleased to partner Dell Technologies to nurture our future infocomm talents, especially in emerging areas such as Virtualisation and Cloud Native App Development. With industry currency being a key focus area, this collaboration is another strategic partnership for learners at NP to gain proficiency in the latest industry software and exposure to real-world applications,” said Lim Kok Kiang, Principal & CEO of NP.

“Our partnership to innovate with Dell will enable SP to nurture a future talent pool of engineers and software developers with the capabilities to build cloud-native solutions that allow enterprises to deploy highly scalable systems in an agile manner. This co-innovation ecosystem will create even greater learning value to our students when they gain access to work on industry projects and develop solutions that integrate Dell’s technologies,” commented Soh Wai Wah, Principal and CEO of SP.
