Corporate Knights dubs Lenovo among world’s Most Sustainable Companies

Toronto-based media, research and financial information products company Corporate Knights, recognised Lenovo as one of the world’s 100 Most Sustainable Companies of 2022.

The company’s yearly ESG-focused rankings looked at over 7,000 global businesses that rack up more than US$1 billion in revenue. They are ranked based on 23 key performance indicators spanning resource management, employee management, financial management, clean revenue, clean investment and supplier performance.

With this honor under its belt, Lenovo’s efforts for a more eco-friendly future are put under the spotlight. Among the tech player’s programs are aggressive greenhouse gas emissions reduction goals for 2030, which aligns with the latest climate science and is approved by the Science Based Targets initiative.

Apart from emission reduction goals, Lenovo is stepping up in terms of sustainability of packaging and products. One such example is the launch of the new ThinkPad Z-Series laptop, made with recycled aluminum and recycled black vegan leather. Packaging, meanwhile, is made from 100% recyclable and compostable bamboo and sugarcane as well as an AC power adapter that uses 90% Post-Consumer Content (PCC). This signaled Lenovo’s continued efforts to embed sustainable features and materials in their products.

Since 2008, the company has done away with 3,240 metric tons of packaging consumption by weight.

Lenovo’s Director of Global Environmental Affairs and Sustainability, Mary Jacques, said: “Being part of the Global 100 ranking once again means a great deal to Lenovo. We understand that as a global technology leader, we have an important role to play in creating innovative technologies that benefit the health of our communities and environment.”
