APU, DNB to develop 5G-inclusive curriculum

The Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) and Malaysia’s Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB) have recently inked a deal to supply Malaysia’s up-and-coming tech talent with knowledge on Fifth Generation (5G) technology by creating a 5G-inclusive curriculum.

DNB’s key areas include sensor technology, edge computing, artificial intelligence, extended reality, and the development of relevant ecosystems in the country.

APU will provide its modernised facilities (at the school’s Bukit Jalil campus) to conduct proof of concepts, craft the latest 5G-enabled use cases, and develop the 5G curriculum that meets DNB’s requirements.

The university will contribute to the industry’s micro-credentials and hold tertiary-level 5G workshops, industry events, and seminars.

According to APU strategy officer Ahmad Zaki Zahid, the 5G network and infrastructure “will go a long way towards catalysing interest in next-gen, 5G-powered products and services.” He added that the academia is their starting point in introducing 5G to the country’s young tech talent.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed shortly after the APU-MY5G Week, where key topics – such as 5G drones and robotics, 5G and AI, 5G and XR, among others – were discussed.

“The APU-DNB partnership allows APU to strengthen our technical capabilities and provides the students with experiential learning opportunities within the 5G space via enhanced connectivity in our infrastructure and innovation on to new applications for Smart University developments,” said APU  chief Innovation & Enterprise officer Prof. Dr. Vinesh Thiruchelvam.
